A delegation headed by the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre, Hoshang Mohamed, visited the Department of Cyclone Preparedness Programme in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to see the Bangladesh’s system of disaster and crisis management and the volunteering system.
During four days programme, the delegation met with Mr. Ahmadul Haque, Director of the Department of Cyclone Preparedness Programme in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Mr. Haque delivered a detailed presentation about the disaster and crisis management system in Bangladesh and the cyclone preparedness programme. Then, he introduced the volunteering system to the delegation. During their stay, the delegation visited several unions and met with the volunteers who lead the preparedness and response during disasters. The delegation also witnessed a demonstration by volunteers on their preparedness methods to educate and prepare the communities in anticipation of a disaster.
The delegation also visited UNDP headquarter and met with Mr. Sudipto Mukerjee, Country Director of the UNDP-Bangladesh. They exchanged views about the disaster and crisis management system in Bangladesh and Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The purpose of the visit is to establish cooperation between the JCC and Department of Cyclone Prepared Programme in Bangladesh to see the Bangladesh’s experience and expertise in disaster management and volunteering system and how to bring the best international expertise and practices to Kurdistan Region.
The Bangladeshi side extended their full readiness to support JCC in implementing the strategic plan for establishing the disaster and crisis management system in Kurdistan including volunteering system.
The visit organized and sponsored by the UNDP-Iraq as part of their continued cooperation and support to the JCC to strengthen crisis response and coordination in Kurdistan and Iraq as well.
The delegation composed of Mr. Fazil Ibrahim; Director General of Metrology and Seismology, brigadier general Ramazan Mustafa; Dean of the Civil Defense Academy at Ministry of Interior, the Directors of Crisis Response Offices, Ms. Vian Rashid from Erbil, Mr. Babarasul Ghafour from Slemani, Ms. Manal Fuad from Duhok and Mr. Sarhad Omer, Director of Administration and Finance at the Joint Crisis Coordination Center.
