On Sunday, October 14, 2018, The Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), Hoshang Mohamed, received a Dutch delegation headed by Mr. Matthijs Wolters, the Netherlands’ Ambassador to Iraq accompanied by Mr. Willem Cosijn Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.
In the meeting, Hoshang Mohamed briefed the delegation about the current humanitarian crisis, needs and priorities and he highlighted that there should be a balance between the humanitarian and stabilization programs to support the remaining IDPs and the returned people in the liberated areas.
Both sides discussed the needs of the Internally Displaced People (IDPs), refugees and the host communities in the Kurdistan Region and particularly providing them with the humanitarian assistance, mainly the food items.
Mr. Mohamed and Ambassador Matthijs exchanged views on the current challenges in front of the return of IDPs and the ways for establishing peace and stability to support the voluntary return of IDPs. Additionally, they discussed the role of the international community, Netherlands’ role in particular, in supporting the Kurdistan Region not only in terms of financial aid but also technical support and bringing experts to deal with the humanitarian crisis until safe and voluntary return for the IDPs and refugees to their areas of origin are achieved.
Ambassador Matthijs reiterated his government’s continued support and expressed readiness for continued cooperation with the KRG and Iraq to provide assistance for the vulnerable people including host communities and IDPs and support their return to the liberated areas.
