Disaster Risk Management workshops conducted in Slemani and Duhok

GIZ, with the support of QUDRA Program, conducted two workshops on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) for the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre’s (JCC) Crisis Response Offices in the governorates of Slemani and Duhok on 27-31 of January 2019.

The aim for this introduction workshop was to establish a first common platform to bring all relevant stakeholders on the same understanding related to DRM, which should help to further lead into more in-depth capacity development processes, during 2019. The tailor made tool will be used by JCC for further capacity development of their staff and the related directorates in the future.

The participants of the two workshops consisted of JCC staff and the different directorates of Health, Meteorology & Seismology; Civil Defense, Municipalities among others.

The JCC is the leading institution for the DRM capacity development and roll out of an effective DRM strategy and plan. This will take realistically a few years’ time.

The GIZ is one of the key partners of the JCC, funded the workshop technically and financially as part of the GIZ’s support for institutional resilience building for the crisis management, including the JCC’s capacity building, strengthening coordination and crisis management and response capacity in the Kurdistan Region.

The Qudra Programme is a regional action, financed by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the 'Madad' Fund and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), seeking to strengthen resilience for Syrian refugees, IDPs and host communities in response to the Syrian and Iraqi crises. The programme is jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Expertise France (EF), Spanish Agency for International Development (AECID) and Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) in programme partner countries of Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
