On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) in collaboration with the US-led Coalition CIMIC Unit organized a one day workshop on Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC) for the relevant ministries and departments including Ministry of peshmerga, police and Asayish officers in the Kurdistan Region.
The aim of the workshop is to introduce the main principles and objectives of the CIMIC coordination to the civil and military services during the times of emergencies and crisis and disasters.
In the opening remarks, Director General of the JCC, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, briefly talked about the importance of maintaining good coordination between all the relevant entities, particularly between civil and military institutions at the time of any emergencies not only to carry out their mandated roles and responsibilities but also to ensure concerted efforts and response to any crisis and emergencies to save the lives of civilians and reduce the effect on the public and private infrastructure while maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region. He also briefed about the close coordination and cooperation between JCC and other armed forces and security agencies in Kurdistan for humanitarian crisis management during the last four years and also to facilitating the operations and movements of the international and local NGOs and agencies to provide humanitarian assistance to the displaced people.
Mr. Hoshang commended the good coordination with the US-led Coalition, hoped for the continuation of such support to enhance the KRG’s capacities in the CIMIC area.
It is the first time JCC opens such workshop on CIMIC and it has been widely welcomed by the participants and they founded very useful and timely. Over 25 representatives of the security and military agencies and JCC staff participated in the workshop.
