On February 24, the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) in collaboration with Germany’s Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) held a one-week workshop on the disaster risk management for the Kurdistan Regional Government’s relevant directorates and ministries.
The purpose of the workshop was to introduce the basics of coordination-related issues during the times of crisis and disasters among the different mandated ministries and departments of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The workshop was the continuation of a long term programme that has been developed jointly between JCC and THW for the joint technical team formed by the JCC from the representatives of the ministries and departments.
The workshop was conducted by two experts from the THW in Erbil and it has covered a detailed discussions and simulations of the issues surrounding proper coordination and joint efforts to manage disaster risks.
During the opening remarks, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, the Director General of the JCC addressed the participants of the workshop. He thanked the successful cooperation between the JCC and THW and highlighted the 2019 plans such as the establishment of a voluntary system for the crisis response and management in the Kurdistan Region.
20 participants from JCC, JCC Crisis Response Offices in the governorates, Ministry of Municipality, Civil Defense Department and Civil Defense Academy attended the week-long workshop.
The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) is one of the JCC’s key partner that has been providing technical and financial support to build the crisis and disaster management institutional capacity of the JCC and its crisis response network since 2015.
