On June 24, 2019, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed met with Mr. Aidan O'Leary, Head of OCHA Office in Iraq to discuss the humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region and the stabilization process in the liberated areas to ensure the return of the IDPs to their areas of origin.
Both sides discussed the current situation of the displaced people and the return process of the IDPs in Iraq.
Mr. Hoshang briefed Mr. Aidan about JCC’s current priorities such as maintain services to the IDPs and bridging humanitarian response to return process and stabilization. He highlighted that the long-term commitment from the humanitarian community is needed to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Kurdistan Region.
Mr. Aidan, Head of OCHA, highlighted their efforts to support the displaced people and reiterated the commitment of the Humanitarian Country Team to continue supporting the people in need in the Region. He also discussed the access challenges that humanitarian communities are facing during their daily operations.
Both sides also discussed the quarterly coordination meeting between JCC-OCHA and UN-Clusters to review the current efforts, discuss the challenges and also ensure concerted efforts.
