On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, French Consul General, Mr. Olivier Decottignies, visited the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) and was received by Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, Director General of JCC.
In the meeting both sides discussed the humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region, preparations that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is making to receive Syrian refugees fleeing for their safety to the Kurdistan Region and also needs, priorities.
Mr. Hoshang extended thanks and appreciation to the people and government of France for the continued humanitarian assistance provided to the displaced people and the Syrian refugees in the Kurdistan Region and KRG’s efforts to help Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees taking refuge in the Kurdistan Region, hoping that France’s support would lead and encourage others to contribute to mitigate the risk and reduce the people’s suffering.
JCC Director General also identified the priority sectors that humanitarian actors and NGOs need to focus on in order to deliver assistance and basic services to the refugees and IDPs, particularly to the newly arrived refugees from Syrian, in an efficient and effective manner. He also expressed.
Mr. Decottignies reiterated his country’s support to the Kurdistan Region, stating that the allocation of 10 million euros, announced by the Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian during his visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region last week, to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees in northern Syria and Kurdistan Region is a sign of France’s commitment to support. He stated that they will continue in their efforts at all channels to support the Syrian refugees in Kurdistan Region.
