The JCC Director General, Hoshang Mohamed welcomed Dr. Gunter Krings, the parliamentary secretary and Vice Minister of Interior and Mr. Klaus Buchmueller, Head of the International Division at the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and his accompanying delegation,
Mr. Hoshang Mohamed warmly welcomed the delegation at the JCC and extended his thanks and appreciation for the continued cooperation and support THW provides to JCC and to the displaced people in KRI. He also thanked the THW’s team in KRI for their professional cooperation and leading role.
He gave an overview to the delegation about the mandated roles, responsibilities, and structure of the JCC, and its leading role in the current emergency management and coordination, especially the Mosul humanitarian crisis. The Director General also highlighted the excellent cooperation between JCC and THW. He briefed the delegation about the projects that have been supported technically and financially by the THW to strengthen the JCC’s capacity in response to the current humanitarian crisis.
The Director General explained the JCC Strategic Plan to establish a disaster and crisis management system which was endorsed by the KRG cabinet, and stated that JCC continues to need the support and cooperation of the THW, especially in the coming years to implement the strategic plan.
Dr. Gunter expressed his thanks and appreciation to the JCC’s support and role in leading the response and coordination for the current humanitarian crisis and stated that we are very glad to see such excellent cooperation between THW and JCC. He also added that we will definitely support this cooperation and will continue to providing assistance to the JCC.
Later, both JCC Director General and the delegation headed to the opening ceremony of the Logistic centre in Erbil which funded by BMZ and built by the THW. In the opening ceremony, Mr. Nawzad Hadi the governor of Erbil also attended. After the ribbon cutting, Dr. Gunter officially handed over the key of the Logistic centre to the JCC. The Logistic centre is fully equipped and first aid kit provided which can support 2500 families.
The logistic centre is one of the projects that have been implemented by the THW in support of strengthening JCC’s logistic management capacity to preposition items and first aid kits to respond to the new emergencies and the new waves of displacement as a result of the ongoing conflict and battle with ISIS.
During their staying, Dr. Gunter and his accompanying delegation also met with the KRG’s Minister of Interior Karim Sinjari and visited the camps of displaced people to see the activities and projects supported and implemented by THW.
THW is one of the key JCC’s partners and has been actively supporting JCC technically and financially to build the human capacity of the institution and technical infrastructure to enable the JCC to operate at its full potential.
