On Thursday 27 July 2017, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre and Mr. Mahma Khalil, the Mayor of the Shingal district officially opened the water project in Osifyian village in Shingal. The water project will provide the clean drinking water for 400 families in the village and the IDPs in Sharafaddin Camp.
During the opening ceremony, the villagers expressed their appreciation to the JCC of the KRG’s Ministry of Interior for funding this project and stating that ‘they were really suffering due to the lack of drinking water. Now we have clean water to drink and we can continue our life in the village’. Additionally, Mr. Mahama Khalil, The mayor of Shingal, extended his thanks to the Minister of Interior and the JCC for their continued cooperation and assistance to the People and Shingal administration. He highlighted the Strategic Reconstruction Plan for Shingal which were prepared by the Shingal Administration and supported by JCC for the next two years.
Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, DG of the JCC, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, reiterated that JCC will continue to support and cooperate with the Shingal administration and facilitate the activities and help all local and international partners to support the returned people in the district and also reconstruct the entire area.
It should be noted that the fund were given to JCC by the KRG’s Representation in Italy to help the Yezidis and JCC allocated to Shingal administration to fund the water well project as it was one of the top priorities of the people. The project is directly implemented by the Shingal district Mayor.
