The KRG Minister of Interior His Excellency Karim Sinjari received the Ambassador Song Woong-Yeob of the Republic of South Korea to Iraq.
Ambassador Song extended his government’s gratitude for the people and government of Kurdistan for the defeat of ISIS and also highly praised the hospitality and generous policy of the KRG to host millions of internally displaced people and refugees from Syria. Ambassador Song stated that Korea has allocated special fund to provide medicine and medical assistance to the Kurdistan Region to support the KRG’s efforts to extend better health services to the IDPs, refugees and host communities.
In the meeting, Minister Sinjari briefed about the current issues including, humanitarian crisis and the needs and priorities of the displaced people.After the meeting, in an official ceremony at the Ministry of Interior, the Minister and the Ambassador signed a letter of donation which consists of medicine and medical equipment worth of three hundred thousand US dollars.
The Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) takes lead to distribute the items to the displaced people in coordination with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Office of the Crisis Response in the governorates and Ministry of health.
Currently, the Kurdistan Region is the host of the (270,000) of the Syrian refugees in Iraq and (1.2 million) of the Iraqi internally displaced people. KRG has continued to provide all civic services to the IDPs and refugees since 2012.
