On Sunday, the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre, held a meeting with the JCC’s Crisis Response Offices and representatives from Garmiyan and Raparin administrations to discuss the mechanism of strengthening coordination and collaboration between the JCC Crisis Response Network and further institutionalize the JCC’s work for the establishment of Crisis and Disaster Management System in the Kurdistan Region endorsed by the Council of Ministers (resolution number110) on May 14, 2017.
Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, Director General of the JCC briefed the participants about the mechanism for operating the Crisis and Disaster Management System, the experience of other countries and the purpose, aim and phases of establishing the system as well as explaining the roles of other KRG institutions.
The participants from the JCC headquarter and the office presented their views, comments and recommendations about the achieved works and plans and priorities for the next nine months. The participants also exchanged ideas on further activating joint work in supporting the strategic plan and developing and establishing a strong crisis response network at the governorates level.
The comments and recommendations discussed in the meeting will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior and the Presidency of Council of Ministers for further developing the system and institutionalizing crisis response in the Kurdistan Region.
The Directors of Crisis Response Offices in Erbil, Duhok, Slemani, Halabja and Garmiyan and Raparin Administrations and Joint Crisis Coordination Center and the UNDP Representative attended the meeting.
A number of international partners have expressed their technical and financial support to strengthen the JCC and the implementation of its 2017-2020 strategic plan to establish crisis response system in the Kurdistan Region; such as United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Department For International Development (DFID), Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ).
