On Wednesday, 28 June 2018, under the supervision of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Minister of Interior Karim Sinjari and Dr. Mahdi al-Allaq, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the high-level committee between the KRG and the Iraqi Federal Government held its 10th meeting in Erbil to discuss the Mosul displaced people at the Ministry of Interior, with the participation of the Iraqi Minister of Displacement and Migration, Dr. Jasim Mohammed, Iraqi Deputy Interior Minister Fariq Muwafaq, Nineveh Governor, Nawfal Hammadi and a number of Director Generals at the KRG Ministry of Interior.
The meeting discussed the situation of the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) who have been displaced to the Kurdistan Region following the occupation of Mosul city and the military operation to liberate the city. The meeting also discussed the challenges and difficulties before the return of the IDPs to their areas and working on removing such challenges to allow voluntary and dignified return of the IDPs.
The meeting approved formation of a joint committee from the general Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) in the Ministry of Interior to follow-up on the return of the IDPs from Erbil and Duhok governorates to Nineveh governorate, opening of the main roads between the governorates to facilitate the return of the IDPs and reactivating trade exchange.
The meeting also made some decisions and recommendations including expediting the process of providing financial assistance to the female Yazidi survivors and provision of services to the people and the IDPs in the areas they are residing.
