On Thursday, July 26, 2018, the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, received Mr. Park Young Kyu, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Erbil and Head of the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) Erbil office, Mr. Sehyoun Han to discuss the current humanitarian situation and the humanitarian assistance for the Internally Displaced People (IDPs), refugees and the host community.
The Korean Consul General announced that his government decided to provide humanitarian assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and allocated 10 million USD through the UN agencies for the humanitarian response. Additionally, the Consul General stated that the Korean government allocated 300,000 USD to provide medical assistance to the Kurdistan Region.
The JCC Director General, on behalf of the KRG, extended thanks and appreciation to the people and the government of the Republic of Korea for the continued assistance for the displaced people, refugees and the host community in the Kurdistan Region.
Finally, Mr. Hoshang highly valued the outstanding efforts and excellent cooperation of Mr. Park and the entire team of the Korean Consulate General and the KOICA. The Korean government has continued providing medical assistance to supporting the IDPs and refugees in the Kurdistan Region since the outbreak of the humanitarian crisis in the past four years.
This medical assistance comes at a time, when the health partners have closed several health facilities and support to the displaced people and they have decided to close all other health services if the required funds are not provided.
