On Monday, August 6, 2018, the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC), Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, received a German delegation composed of Mr. Thorsten Frei, member of the German Bundestag, Ms. Barbara Wolf, Consul General in Erbil, and Ms. Barbara Schumacher Consul for political, economic and humanitarian affairs to discuss the current humanitarian crisis, the situation of the IDPs and the refugees as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance.
Mr. Hoshang welcomed the delegation and extended profound thanks and appreciation to the government and the people of Germany for the continued humanitarian assistance and support provided for the IDPs and refugees and host communities in the Kurdistan, as well as technical and capacity building programmes for the JCC and other KRG institutions since the outbreak of the crisis in 2014. Mr. Hoshang also highlighted the role of the THW and GIZ in providing technical and capacity building support for the JCC.
Then, he briefed them about the current challenges, gaps and humanitarian needs and the ways for further cooperation and coordination for better management of the current crisis and prevent new ones wherever possible.
The German delegation visited the Kurdistan Region to see the current situation so that they tailor their assistance accordingly. They reiterated the German’s support and appreciated the role of the KRG and the JCC.
Germany has been very supportive since 2014 in providing direct and indirect humanitarian, financial and technical assistance to the displaced people and host communities. They have played a key role to support the institutional resilience building, especially strengthening the crisis management capacity of the JCC.
