South Korea continues to provide humanitarian assistance to IDPs and refugees in Kurdistan Region

October 15, 2018, The KRG Minister of Interior His Excellency Mr. Karim Sinjari received Mr. Park Young-kyu Consul General of the Republic of Korea in the Kurdistan Region and Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counsellor Song Bum Shin and Jekab Moon, Defense attaché in Baghdad. In the meeting, the current issues including, the current humanitarian crisis, required funds to help the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees was part of the discussion.

After the meeting, an official ceremony held to handover the humanitarian assistance of the medical supplies donated by the Korean Government to the IDPs and Refugees in Kurdistan Region. Minister Sinjari on behalf of the people and the government of the Kurdistan Region, extended thanks and appreciation to the government and people of South Korea for their continued generosity and humanitarian assistance to the Kurdistan Region, adding that such assistance is critically needed, and it will hugely serve the IDPs and refugees currently hosted in the Region.

Consul Young-kyu extended his governments appreciation and thanks to the government of people of Kurdistan Region for being so generous and hosting this huge number of IDPs and refugees and further reiterated that the Republic of Korea is committed to continue providing assistance to IDPs and refugees in the Kurdistan Region.

The Joint Crisis Coordination Center (JCC) takes lead to distribute the items to the displaced people in coordination with the Korean Consulate. The medical assistance is worth of (300,000 USD) and it is the most needed medicine and pharmaceutical items. It is worth to mention that it has been for the fourth year, the Republic of South Korea provides such medical aids to support KRG’s humanitarian efforts in the health sector.
