Kurdistan Region’s Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) on Thursday, received the third shipment of medical aid from Germany, to be distributed on personals in the first line of defence against the spread of the new coronavirus.
Hoshang Mohammed, Director General of JCC in a press conference held on Thursday extended his thanks and appreciation to German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) for being one of the first agencies assisted the region with medical protection supplies to help prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 since the beginning of pandemic in Kurdistan Region.
During the press conference, Mohammed explained that since the diagnosis of the first case of COVID-19 in the Kurdistan Region, JCC with THW’s support was able to distribute 3,500 dry food baskets, 3,500 boxes of sanitation equipment, and 3,000 baskets of children formula to IDPs, refugees, and the low-income families in Kurdistan Region.
Last week the German THW delivered the first shipment of medical protection supplies which was delivered to Ministry of Health by KRG's Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) in an official ceremony.
The overall aid consisted of 250,000 medical masks,150,000 protection gloves, 15,000 goggles, 1,300 face shield, 50,000 headcovers, and 50,000 cover shoos, which was received in three shipments starting last week. Mohammed added that the assistance will be distributed on those who are in the first line of prevention against the coronavirus, such as the internal security forces "Asayish" and the hospitals of Thalassemia, the border crossing checkpoint teams, IDP and Refugee camp administrations and airports, “in all four provinces of Kurdistan Region, including two administrative units.”
Mohammed also announced the opening of a logistic center in Slemani province, that was constructed and equipped by the THW, which is the third logistic center built by the German Federal Agency for Technical relief in Kurdistan Region. The center will be used as a starting point for providing humanitarian assistance to IDPs, refugees and low-income families in the province.
