The Republic of Korea announces the US$300,000 fund for supporting winterization needs in Refugee and IDP camps in Kurdistan Region

On Monday, September 7, 2020, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) received Mr. Choi Kwang Jin, Consul General of the Korean Republic. Mr. Choi officially announced the US$300,000 fund for supporting winterization needs in Refugee and IDP camps in Kurdistan Region.

In the meeting, both sides discussed the recent humanitarian developments and the current humanitarian situation in the Kurdistan Region, needs of humanitarian sector and effects of COVId19 on the displaced people and priority needs.

Mr. Choi stated that the Government of the Republic of Korea decided to donate US$8 million to Iraq through International Organizations and US$ 300,000 directly through Joint Crisis Coordination Centre(JCCC). The above mentioned fund is to provide humanitarian needs, live-saving assistance and winterization needs to the Refugee and IDP camps in Kurdistan Region. The sectors that the fund is utilized for reflects the KRG’s request.

Mr. Hoshang extended thanks and appreciation for the continued assistance provided by the Republic of Korea and highly valued the outstanding role of the consulate of Korea in Erbil for good cooperation.

The humanitarian assistance annually provided by the Korean Republic since 2016 as a support for the KRG’s efforts in helping the IDPs and refugees hosted in Kurdistan Region.
