On Thursday (10 September 2020), in a ceremony attended by Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, Director General of JCC, Mr. Klemens Semtner, German Consul General, Mrs Kathrin Jaschke, Consul for Political, Humanitarian, and Economic Affairs in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and THW’s teams in Erbil, on behalf of the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW), Mr. Klemens handed over two fully equipped rescue vehicles to the JCC’s Rapid Response Units (RRU).
In the handover ceremony, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, DG of JCC expressed his appreciation and thanks to the consulate general of Germany and THW for continued collaboration and coordination with JCC and KRI especially support for RRU. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of outstanding cooperation between JCC and THW that has resulted in great achievements in the capacity building process in KRI. Also, he highly appreciated the role of volunteers in RRU.
Mr. Klemens Semtner, German CG in KRI, valued the continued coordination between the German government with KRI and he stated that he is pleased with the good cooperation between THW and JCC as well as between Germany and KRI. He highlighted the impressive role of RRU members especially female volunteers in the unit.
With this donation, the total of rescuing vehicles the Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) has provided to RRU reached three vehicles for Erbil, Duhok, and Slemani.
Rapid Response Unit (RRU) is the first official volunteer group in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The RRU was established for all the KRI governorates on November 28, 2018, according to the Council of Ministers Executive Order No. 6299. The members are a group of volunteers from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Municipalities, Civil Defense, International Organizations, JCC Staffs, and others. They are under the direct monitoring of JCC and their goal is to rescue vulnerable people in an emergency, for this purpose they were trained well.
