On Thursday 2 February, in a ceremony organized by the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre (JCC) and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW);
The KRG Minister of Interior, H.E. Karim Sinjari and German Minister for International Development H.E. Gerd Muller and the Governor of Erbil H.E. Nawzad Hadi as well as the Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, and Deputy Head of the THW’s International division, Mr. Florian Weber, and Head of Programme in KRI, Ms. Sarah Kunzelmann, the dignitaries laid the foundation stone of the construction of logistic centre for the JCC.
The THW will construct two logistic centres in Erbil and Duhok for JCC in support to the KRG’s efforts to help IDPs and refugees. The two projects of logistic centres construction is funded by the German Department for International Development (BMZ) which costs around 1.8 million euros.
The logistic centres are one of the key needs to enable JCC to stockpile and preposition the most needed humanitarian assistance and items to respond to the current humanitarian crisis and new emergencies either man-made or natural disasters in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
THW is one of the key partners of JCC and has consciously supported JCC technically and provided several most needed training courses and coordination equipment in 2016. The construction of the two logistic centres are the continuation of the THW’s support to JCC to strengthen crisis management and response capacity in the Kurdistan Region.
