Erbil, Kurdistan Region (dfr.gov.krd) – Head of KRG Department of Foreign Relations Minister Falah Mustafa today hosted representatives of Governmental Aid Agencies based in Kurdistan to exchange views on the KRG’s humanitarian and institutional needs.
Minister Mustafa expressed KRG’s appreciation to the representatives of the organizations for their significant contribution in alleviating the suffering of the vulnerable people who have fled to the safety of the Region. He shed lights on the current political, military and humanitarian developments and called for continued international assistance in caring for the displaced people fleeing from Mosul operations. The Minister highlighted the need for enhanced governance in the region and called for the support of the organizations in building the capacity of KRG institutions, human resource development programs and consolidating the role of women in the society.
Mr. Hoshang Mohammed, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre, spoke of the specific humanitarian needs of the Kurdistan Region by sector and stressed that stabilization efforts in the newly liberated areas, in addition to reconstruction, should also focus on social and political reconciliation.
During the meeting, representatives of the organizations gave a brief overview of their activities in Kurdistan and exchanged views on how to best address the needs of the host and the guest communities as well as the newly liberated areas. The meeting was attended by the Consul General of the United Arab Emirates - representing UAE Red Crescent, Consul General of the State of Kuwait - representing the Kuwait Red Crescent, and representatives of DFID, US Consulate General Refugee & IDP Coordinator, USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, GIZ, KOICA, JICA and Qatar Red Crescent.
