A Joint Meeting between JCC and the U.S Delegation

The JCC Director General received the senior coordinator at the office of refugees and IDPs affairs in the US Embassy in Baghdad, Mr. John M. Underriner and the US Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Ken Gross.

In the meeting, the Director General of the JCC, Mr. Hoshang Mohamed briefed the delegation about the current humanitarian situation and IDPs in Mosul and Ninewa, and also the needs of the current IDPs and refugees hosted in Kurdistan Region.

Further the director general highlighted the coordination and cooperation mechanisms in place between Erbil and Baghdad as well as with partners and the challenges to ensure close collaboration and cooperation to respond to the emergency. He thanked the assistance and support that has been provided by the US government and requested to continue providing more support and assistance to KRI in order to continue providing services and support to the displaced people. Mr. Mohamed also focused on the return of the IDPs and explained the challenges towards stabilization.

On their side, Mr. John highly appraised and thanked the role of the JCC for the good cooperation and leading the coordination efforts and also in providing assistance and facilitating the activities of all humanitarian community here. He reiterated the US government’s continued support, said that they will continue providing the technical and financial assistance to the displaced people in Ninewa and also those hosted in KRI to alleviate their suffering and reduce the impact on host communities.

Finally, both sides agreed to continue their dialogue and cooperation to ensure joint efforts to help the IDPs, returnees and host communities in a concerted manner.

The meeting were attended by senior members of JCC, Mr. Mariwan Hassan, Director of Crisis Response, Ms. Vian Rasheed, Director of Crisis Response in Erbil governorate and Ms. Patricia M. Aguilo, Refugee & IDP Coordinator at the US Consulate General in Erbil.
