On 26th February, 2017, H.E Mr. Karim Sinjari, the Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Peshmerga Affairs, received Miss Marie-Claude Bibeau, the Canadian Minister for International Development and the accompanying delegation at the Ministry of Interior.
In the meeting, Mr. Sinjari extended his appreciation for the continued humanitarian and military assistance that Canadian government offered to the IDPs, refugees and Peshmerga forces at the beginning of war against ISIS and humanitarian crisis in the Region.
Minister Sinjari highlighted the latest humanitarian, security developments and events in the region and also the challenges that facing KRG. The Minister further explained the KRG’s plan and strategy as well as the priorities of the Ministry of Interior to cope with the current crisis and new emergencies.
The Canadian Minister then thanked the government and the people of the Kurdistan Region for receiving and sheltering this large number of IDPs and refugees stating that “the purpose of this visit is to closely monitor the situation here and identify the priorities areas to support the KRG including stabilization process, women empowerment and strengthening the KRG institutions crisis response capacity.”
In the meeting the purpose and the aim of establishing the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre has been discussed, which followed by a presentation by Mr. Hoshang Mohamed, the Director General of JCC to brief the meeting about the aim of JCC, its structure, the stages of developing the institution and JCC’s future plans.
Minister of Interior has asked the Canadian delegation to support the JCC and other institutions of KRG’s Ministry of Interior to further strengthening the crisis capacity in the Region.
